Being a professional gardener I need the best tools to cut & prune hedges and plants on a daily basis. So, I found the HSX92 to be solid garden shears , well designed and with razor sharp blades. One of the finest I have used and shears that will last me for life (one hopes).

Telescopic tree pruners make neatening up your garden easy. They’re convenient, safe and easy to use; however, there are a lot of different styles to choose between. Whether you need to prune roses, or cut high-reaching bamboo canes, the Garten Primus Rose Cavalier Pruner makes it easy to do all the jobs around the garden without requiring multiple tools. The pole is very easy to extend to a maximum of 3 m, making this tool suitable for taller trees. The blade can be removed from the handle if you want to use it for handheld pruning. One small criticism would be with the number of plastic components on the pruners. Both the extender mechanism, and the cutting head angle adjuster, are plastic, which seems less durable than if all the important parts were made from metal. Most fixed-blade hedge shears can be sharpened easily with a standard sharpener (see ‘Sharpening Your Shears’ below). However, for electric models, you’ll need a rotary tool with a sharpening head, or to take it to a professional shop. Keeping blades sharp will not only make your task easier in reducing the effort needed thus leading to less fatigue on your hands and arms but it is also good for plant health. The heads can be orientated differently depending on whether they are intended for grass cutting or edging. Shears for grass cutting will have a ‘scissor’ head that is positioned parallel to the ground. Shears for edging will have a head that cuts more like a standard pair of scissors. It’s a good quality machine, and comes in three separate pieces to allow the length to be adjusted. The handle attaches to the end of one section, the saw to the end of the other, and then there is an additional extension piece. This pruner can be used without the extension, and will measure approximately 1.8 m, or with the extension, measuring 2.7 m. Instead of allowing free adjustability between its lengths, you can only one of three positions: no extension, half extended or fully extended. Therefore, there are some limitations.

Whereas power tools often weigh several kilograms, these hedge shears are very light at under 900 g, making them a lot easier to use for an extended period of time. They’re also extremely sharp (so much so that you need to be really careful when cleaning them), so cutting branches manually can be done very efficiently. They are also fairly comfortable to hold, although noticeably less strong when fully extended. There’s a comfortable non-slip foam grip at the end and in the middle of the handle, so it can be operated with two hands. With our selection of garden cutting tools you can keep your outdoor areas trimmed, pruned and tidy for a landscaped look. From potted shrubs to your hedges and lawn, we have the tools you need to keep your garden looking its best all year round. Evergreen Yew hedges make one of the most forgiving when it comes to maintenance. When pruned correctly yew creates one of the best barriers and evergreen screens. There are several different types of shears out there, and they don’t all work in the same way, nor are they designed for the same tasks. Here are a few of the main types of shears and their different uses: Garden Hedge Shears

My Top Recommended Telescopic Tree Pruners

For taller hedges (around 2 m), choose hedging shears with 22 – 30 cm (9 – 12″) blades and look for telescopic handles to avoid messing with ladders. When pruning larger hedges, it can be particularly useful to look for shears with a notch on the blades as this will allow you to cut through woodier branches. Manual hedge shears can be used for snipping leaves and small branches. Some manual hedge shears have notches on the blades which can be used for trimming larger branches as well.
