But a near-death experience has her realizing what and who is truly important in life, and what she wants from it - so now she is taking that chance. It did unfortunately feel like 3/4 of a book, as it tried to juggle too much, and ended up leaving too many bits of the story unfinished to carry into a sequel, which left me feeling incomplete. You can feel the Legends and Lattes inspiration, but Can't Spell Treason is almost a different animal than its predecessor. It’s not a story of first love or even falling in love, but a story of two women who have been together for 2 years already who are stumbling through the transition from long-distance to being together every day and beginning a new life together.

is sort of brushed off with a "well, we'll look more into that later," not even afforded a proper cliff-hanger. There's also a lack of solid worldbuilding, and as other reviews have pointed out the book isn't really a "cosy fantasy". It was hilarious seeing Wylan and Feo bicker and our main couple envision a rivals to lovers relationship for them. The setting is solid, the romance feels real, and the magic system with its mystical creatures are filled with whimsy and familiarity. What follows is a tale of mishaps, mysteries, dragons, and a murderous queen throwing the realm’s biggest temper tantrum.the pov switches off between them, and there were times that i could not tell whose head we were supposed to be in since they were so similar and so unremarkable. This last one may have been particularly jarring to me as I'm a Brit and it's such an well-known Americanism that I can't dissociate it from the modern real-world place of America.

The emergence of cosy queer fantasy is my favourite thing about the publishing industry at the moment, and this book included all the reasons why: glorious storytelling and world building, a healthy, joyful romance between two strong-willed, powerful women from different worlds, and an atmosphere I desperately wanted to be part of, if only to sip my tea and watch everyone fall in love. side note: I feel slightly uncomfy with the fictionalization of bagels, which is a food that emerged out of antisemitism, and is incredibly important to Jewish culture/history, but it was only a short bit of the story!I wish I could have a whole novel of all the character moments, shenanigans, and romance without the deadly serious world-ending adventure storyline getting in the way”? Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you. Can't Spell Treason Without Tea by Rebecca Thorne is a gorgeous treat of a book, filled with cosy adventure, sapphic romance and good feelings. When she’s not writing or avoiding writing, Rebecca can be found traveling the country as a flight attendant, or doing her best impression of a granola-girl hermit with her two dogs. They’re solid in their bond and speak casually about marriage in a comfortable dynamic filled with established history and ease.

But Reyna is an elite bodyguard to a vengeful queen, and Kianthe is the most powerful mage in existence. I’m definitely having a good time with cozy fantasies this year, so I couldn’t resist when the author offered arcs of this book.I loved Legends and Lattes so I was excited to hear all the comparisons people were making about these two books, but, unfortunately for me, they were not similar where is mattered. Thing is, Reyna works as one of the Queen’s private guards, and Kianthe is the most powerful mage in existence. Kianthe and Reyna are such characters, and their interactions are full of wholesome love (and terrible puns) and I love every second of it. speaking of relationships, i was also disappointed in the fact that kianthe and reyna had a preexisting relationship. Although I wish Gossley had been developed a bit more for having a purpose beyond, seemingly, only existing to make Reyna look like a better and more empathetic person, I enjoyed the dynamic between him and Reyna nonetheless in between Kianthe and Reyna's never-ending banter.
