It’s my own darn fault, but I managed to scratch the screen on my eTrex within the first few days of using it. I took the GPS units on the Red Rock hike at Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park hike to do the test, and you can browse the tracks and details on my shared Caltopo map here. Actually getting lost can suck, like when you run out of water or ride an extra 40 miles with no food or end up stuck on a busy highway with no shoulder. The select button also brings up any sub-menus on a page, such as the function to customize data fields.
