About this deal

I am an extremely non-technical painter. I don’t often view hobby videos to improve my painting methods and I’ve never attended a seminar or anything like that. As a result I’ve developed my style over 20+ years of seeing things, experimenting, and slowly developing schemes over generations of new models… and I mean new in the sense that I bought fresh models because LOL the Craftworld range. This stubborn and pointless refusal to improve myself in an easy manner is also why I have never touched an airbrush – which makes the vehicle heavy Craftworld army a true nightmare when you really think about it. Boon’s Eldar Their contoured shells house the spirits of the wakeful dead in much the same way as lesser Ghost Warriors, though their armoured chests each hold a living Craftworld Aeldari pilot within. These pilots are not normal steersmen such as those at the helm of Asuryani grav-tanks and aircraft, but rare and unusual warriors who were each born a twin. Just before we start, we’d like to thank Games Workshop for providing us with a review copy of this book, and with some of the models you’ll see pictured within the article.

The clarity of thought provided by the living twin ensures that the construct moves with the speed typical of the Aeldari race, whilst the psychic link between the pilot and their departed sibling allows them to commune with not only the animating forces of the twin, but also the spirits of former incumbents that once controlled the construct's long-limbed form.Shredding Fire might get there as a second Dire Avenger option for a big unit – it isn’t cheap, but it lets their shurikens get extra AP on a 5 rather than a six, good if you’re planning to go wild with combos. Ulthwe and Biel-Tan stand out as the best competitive options among the named Craftworlds, with Alaitoc maybe getting there as well. Wraiths are mostly terrifying but expensive, though Wraithlords may have some pretty efficient builds. Of course, the more Ghost Warriors there are present in the host, the greater the strain this places on any individual Spiritseer. Thus, in larger campaigns, an Autarch might well be accompanied by an entire council of Spiritseers -- known as a "Shadow Council" -- each of whom is responsible for overseeing the actions of a different Ghost Warrior strike force. They also are a great example of GW’s complete illogic when it comes to points cost. Compare a SM Dreadnought with Multi-Melta and Fist (139 pts) to a Wraithlord with Ghostglaive and Brightlance (133 pts).

Painting Biel-Tan well means not only mastering painting white, but also being able to freehand the thorny vines that wind over their armor. It’s a daunting paint job particularly for new players, but the results can look spectacular. Silks’ Method Credit: Silks I’m still working on expanding the army. My next goal is to get it to 1,000 points, and I’m almost there. I’d like to push it beyond that, if my friends and I don’t get distracted, which is a distinct possibility – venturing into the Mortal Realms has been mentioned more than once…Summoned into being by the necromantic processes of the Asuryani Seers, only a true hero of the Aeldari species has spirit enough to animate the massive wraithbone shell of a Wraithlord. An Asuryani army may be accompanied by several of these heroes of ages past, but, like all of their kind, they are dependent upon the presence of living Aeldari for their sense of purpose. This arrangement, which originally arose out of necessity, has over time become an established practice and one of Iyanden's greatest strengths, allowing elements of the craftworld's Ghost Warrior host that are scattered across the battlefield to operate with a coordination that far outstrips that of the living.

Either way, a single Wraithlord can turn the tide of battle, the legends of the fallen hero animating its shell continuing to grow even in death. The name Skathach is possibly a reference to Scáthach, a legendary Scottish warrior-woman who trained the hero Cú Chulainn. The other big (literally) splashy toy here is the Avatar, who certainly looks at least interesting thanks to the Webway gate existing. He’s expensive, but hugely resilient to big shots, and can be buffed to the gills with Farseer powers. Being able to place a Webway gate and then pull the Avatar with Phantasm when needed (i.e. against Tau) puts him in an interesting spot where it’s probably overpriced, but lists that can work with him might exist. I’m very happy with the results and my progress so far. Working on this project alongside some friends, who are also progressing their armies during the pandemic, has really motivated me. In fact, I had my first tabletop game in about 20 years just the other day – a game of Warhammer 40,000 using the first 500 points of this army, all fully painted! We had an absolute blast. Rarely can a Wraithseer be risked upon the battlefield. Armed with a Distortion Cannon, Wraithspear and Wraithshield, and wreathed in eldritch energy, a Wraithseer is still a potent foe despite its ancient age.A Dark Enemy (232.M41) - In the aftermath of a battle on Cullrak, in which the Asuryani of Mymeara successfully fight off a daemonic incursion, a huge raiding party from the Drukhari Kabal of the Fiend Ascendant threatens a clutch of the Asuryani's Spirit Stones. It is greatly feared that the Kabal will retreat to Commorragh and debase the souls of Mymeara's dead. With their numbers already considerably depleted from the previous battle, the Asuryani of Mymeara have little choice but to command their Spiritseers to unleash the Ghost Warriors in their defence. The wraith-constructs launch one of the most vengeful strikes in the craftworld's history and numerous Kabalite Warriors and their Raiders are incinerated by searing Wraithknight plasma blasts. There are also a bunch of relic weapons, and honestly you probably just don’t take these – they’re better than they were in 8th, generally, but none of them are transformational to a unit’s capabilities like some of the above are. This union is not something that the Asuryani embrace. In fact, most believe it is an abhorrent act of necromancy and something to be used only when no other means of salvation presents itself. Speaking of Strands of Fate – this absolutely rules, and turns where you get good rolls on this are going to feel incredible. This new mechanic has you roll six dice at the start of each battle round, and you get to keep a number of them based on the game size (4 in Strike Force games). Each die result corresponds to a type of roll you can spend that die on later in the round to automatically generate a 6 result for a single die – no roll required. These six rolls are:

Despite the fact that the Wraithlord construct exists in realspace, the spirit which controls it is never able to perceive reality as well as those who are still alive, as a soul in a Spirit Stone inhabits a dimension that is in both realspace and the Warp simultaneously. This incredibly resilient material enables the Ghost Warriors to stride across the most violent of battlefields and weather bolter blasts from Traitor Marines or sizzling bio-plasma from dreaded Tyranid hive fleet creatures. If this rift opens within the ranks of the enemy, the results range from catastrophic trauma to full bodily displacement into the Warp. The psychic link between an Aeldari and his identical twin is like no other. Whilst alive, these gifted individuals can sense the proximity, the mood, and even the thoughts of their counterparts with the ease that a normal Aeldari could feel the sun on his skin or the wind in his hair. The bond is so strong that should one of the twins die before the other, the surviving brother or sister will often fade away in sympathy. When the call to war is heard, these beings are awakened by the most gifted Seers. Their Spirit Stones glow hot as the slow-burning anger of the dead flows through their cores. Once kindled, the wrath that animates their wraithbone bodies becomes an unstoppable fury that can only be quenched in the blood of their foe.
