About this deal

Bosch has done a lot of work on the Unlimited BCS122GB’s high-speed motor, airflow and noise damping – and it’s a real success.

The three components are easy to clip together and pull apart, and you can even use your foot to remove the floor head, saving you from bending down or having to upend the whole unit. Today, we have millions of users a month from around the world, and assess more than 1,000 products a year.

However, with the dust canister getting towards the 'Max' level I made a conscious effort to stop the test to empty it, and when I turned the vacuum off some flour was deposited back on to the floor. There are plenty of differences between the two machines, however, and the main one does not make good reading for the Bosch. The Unlimited series is part of Bosch’s 18 V Power for All system that shares the same range of 18V lithium-ion power packs between different tools.

A single charge light illuminates flashing green for charging, green for fully charged and red to signify issues, such as when the battery is too hot to charge. Clip-on tools include a 2-in-1 furniture nozzle with pull-down dusting brush and a bonkers long and very flexible crevice tool. However, the vacuum then trapped a couple, enough to lift the front of the floor head off the ground and enabling it to surf over a significant number of the Cheerios, sucking them up as it went. Some cordless vacuum cleaners have suction channels that do not extend right to the edges of the floorhead and so can leave large uncleaned margins around the edge of rooms.

Alongside the body components, you will also find the power brush (which is the main cleaning head) provided and additional attachments to tackle a wide range of messes. Designed for exceptional usability and made to last, they are equipped with a motor that's engineered and made in Germany according to the highest quality standards. We would happily trade a couple of minutes of Turbo runtime for a brushbar that cleaned consistently without slowing or stopping.

That is a trait we are much more used to seeing with air-powered ‘turbo’ brushes and it can make cleaning rather frustrating. While being cordless and having a direct floorhead is undoubtedly the ideal scenario for stair cleaning, we again missed having a small turbo tool for these duties. Editorial independence means being able to give an unbiased verdict about a product or company, with the avoidance of conflicts of interest. It isn’t quite as well-equipped the Dyson V8 Animal, which comes with an additional smaller motorised head for cleaning the stairs more easily, or the Roidmi X20, which comes with a mop attachment.

That sort of charging grunt demands cooling and the dock has its own fan that cools both the charger and battery pack. Overall, the Bosch BCS712GB cordless vacuum cleaner is a real delight to use and does its job superbly… no matter the mess! For what we use it for – dust, dirt, crumbs, hair and animal stuff – its suction is roughly on par with the two high-end Dyson models I’m familiar with.
